Boston's Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to 16 nationally significant historic sites, every one an authentic American treasure. Preserved and dedicated by the citizens of Boston in 1958, when the wrecking ball threatened, the Freedom Trail today is a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution and beyond.

The New England Holocaust Memorial was built to foster memory of and reflection on one of the great tragedies of our time, the Holocaust (Shoah). The effort was begun by a group of survivors of Nazi concentration camps who have found new homes and new lives in the Boston area. Dedicated in October, 1995, over 3000 individuals and organizations from across the community joined in sponsoring the project.

The Public Garden, established in 1837, is the first public botanical garden in the United States. Today, with its plant material chosen for ornamental excellence as well as its botanical diversity, it forms a green and flowering oasis in the heart of a great metropolis. No visit to Boston would be complete without a stroll in the Garden which is maintained by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the Friends of the Public Garden.

The Museum of Fine Arts is open seven days a week:

Monday and Tuesday, 10 am-4:45 pm / Wednesday-Friday, 10 am-9:45 pm / Saturday and Sunday, 10 am-4:45 pm / Galleries are subject to last-minute closings and changes / Musical Instruments Gallery, 11 am-4 pm / Japanese Garden, Open spring through early fall, 10 am-4 pm, weather permitting / Museum Bookstore & Shop , Open weekdays during regular Museum hours, and until 5:30 pm Saturdays and Sundays.

The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year. There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome.

The Visitor Center in the Hunnewell Building is open 9 AM – 4 PM weekdays,
10 AM – 4 PM Saturdays, Noon – 4 PM Sundays and is closed on Holidays.

The Museum is open 7 days per week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of New Year’s, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Fenway Park is the home ballpark of the Boston Red Sox baseball club. The park, the oldest of all Major League Baseball stadiums still in use, opened in 1912, and the current season, 2007, marks Fenway's 95th birthday. Fenway hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 1946, 1961, and 1999, and has also played host to nine World Series. Fenway is considered to be one of the most historic and tradition-rich stadiums in all of baseball.

The USS Constitution Museum was incorporated in 1972 as an interpretive complement to the active duty naval vessel USS Constitution. In 1976, the private, non-profit museum opened the doors in the present facility located just across the pier from the still floating USS Constitution. The Museum houses and displays artifacts related to the Ship’s history in interpretive exhibitions offering the context of USS Constitution’s history. The founding of the Museum enabled the Ship to clear the decks of display cases so that visitors who tour aboard see a frigate ready to sail, rather than a floating museum.
